Memorable Men ’ s Fashions

The Masters Jacket Arguably the most iconic piece of clothing in the golf world , The Green Jacket presented every year at the Masters has a long history dating back to the early 20th century . Originally donned exclusively by Augusta National members in the 1930s , Sam Snead became the first Masters winner to be awarded the prestigious jacket in 1949 , according to the PGA of America .
Sam Snead ’ s Straw Hat
Speaking of Snead , the legendary Virginia native stood out not only for his play on the course , but also for his unique straw hats that he wore throughout his long career . This fashion statement stood out at the time , as many of his competitors opted for flat or newsboy caps .
Tiger ’ s Sunday Red Shirts
In 2024 , Tiger Woods announced the end of his iconic , nearly 30-year partnership with Nike and launched his own clothing brand Sun Day Red . Woods began wearing red during the final round of tournaments as a young golfer , as his mother believed red symbolized strength and dominance , according to the Sun Day Red website .
John Daly ’ s Colorful Pants
Spongebob Squarepants , the American Flag , $ 100 bills and a score of other loud and colorful patterns have all been found on John Daly ’ s golf pants . Inspired to dress like Daly ? The Daly Collection from Loudmouth features fun colors and unique patterns in both men ’ s and women ’ s apparel .
Pfingst is tapping into this trend by setting up several trunk shows with new vendors . My customers really like certain brands and I just really try to make sure I ’ m carrying the brands that they ’ re lookin for the most . If I see a brand start to really fizzle out , I try to replace it with something up-and-coming .” — Zach Pfingst , director of golf at Bay Creek Resort & Club
“ The performance shirt is just the way of the world right now ,” Pfingst said . “ Almost the entire shop that I carry is in that performance golf shirt style . Not many years ago , you had quite a bit of cotton in your shop , and right now , I have a very , very small amount of cotton shirts .”
An Eye Toward the Future
Golf fashion has come a long way , from the stiff , formal looks of the early 1900s to today ’ s functional yet stylish gear . As the game evolves , so do the clothing choices players make , balancing performance with personal style . Whether it ’ s the rise of athleisure or the continued dominance of performance fabrics , the apparel on the course reflects a mix of tradition , innovation and comfort .
With trends constantly shifting , golfers — both professionals and enthusiasts — are finding new ways to express themselves through what they wear . The future of golf fashion is far from predictable , and for those in the industry , staying ahead of the curve is all part of the game .
