Around the same time , in the early years of women ’ s golf in the U . S ., players wore skirts that often extended past their ankles . It wasn ’ t until the 1950s , according to the LPGA Women ’ s Network , that hemlines began to rise and styles started becoming more conducive to the movement required for playing the game .

Trends in Women ’ s Fashion

After exploring a wide range of golf clothing brands — both big and small — here are five styles and trends that caught my eye in women ’ s fashion :
1 . Matching sets and monochromatic looks 2 . Pleated skirts and skorts 3 . Vintage-inspired polos 4 . Athleisure apparel 5 . Bold colors paired with unique patterns
Moving into the 1950s , Robertson notes that men began wearing slimmer golf pants . Polo shirts , which had been popularized first by polo and tennis players also gained traction on the golf course during this time and remain a staple today .
By the 1970s and ‘ 80s , both men and women golfers embraced bold patterns and vibrant colors in their pants , skirts and shirts . During this time , according to the LPGA Women ’ s Network , professional women golfers were opting for pants and unisex styles over the golf skirts . Icons like Jan Stephenson , Jack
Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer stood out not only for their exceptional play , but also for their stylish fashions .
Once the 1990s and 2000s came around , partnerships between professional golfers and iconic sports brands grew rapidly , influencing what players wore on the Tour — think Tiger Woods and Nike .
Today , golf professionals continue to set trends for the broader golf world .
Because Bay Creek Resort & Club is located right on the water , Pfingst says he carries a variety of outerwear and sun shirts in his shop ( pictured above ).
Tracking the Trends
For Zach Pfingst , director of golf at Bay Creek Resort & Club in Cape Charles , staying on top of the latest golf fashions is part of his job . A two-time recipient of the MAPGA Merchandiser of the Year Award for Resort Facilities , Pfingst has seen trends come and go during his 20 + years in merchandising at Bay Creek .
Currently , his top brands include Peter Millar , Johnnie-O and FootJoy . When merchandising for the property , Pfingst gravitates toward bright , cheerful colors . “ My customers really like certain brands and I just really try to make sure I ’ m carrying the brands that they ’ re lookin for the most ,” Pfingst said . “ If I see a brand start to really fizzle out , I try to replace it with something up-and-coming .”
So , how long does it take for brands to fizzle out ?
The lifespan of a brand ’ s popularity can vary . As Pfingst points out , some brands remain relevant for years , while others might fade in just a year or so .
Athleisure , which merges athletic wear with casual everyday styles , has gained major traction in sports fashion , and
