Another course with Virginia architect fingerprints can be found south of the city in Delaware . Rock Manor Golf Course in Wilmington underwent an extensive renovation led by Lester George , who counts Ballyhack and Independence among his Virginia credits . Originally opened in 1921 , Rock Manor was lengthened from 5,779 to 6,405 yards , presenting a surprising championship challenge . It ’ s considered among Delaware ’ s finest public layouts .
