BIG CITIES OFFER BIG ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS . New York City is famed for its thriving food , arts and theater scenes . Philadelphia offers history , world-class museums and the ubiquitous cheesesteak . There is plenty to keep anyone busy in either of these classic American cities .
But suppose you want to squeeze a little golf in while on business or pleasure while visiting those places ? Neither are considered classic golf destinations , but all have plenty of public options should you find time to break out the clubs .
For this exercise , we ’ re considering options within 45 minutes of the city center . Many will offer iconic views of the city skyline as you work your way through 18 holes . Settle in for the best of what the biggest East Coast cities have to offer .

We ’ ll start in Pennsylvania ’ s largest city and work our way to the northeast . Philly ’ s best public golf options are spread among three states but most are a quick drive from the heart of the city . Start by heading across the Delaware River to find River Winds Golf & Tennis Club in West Deptford , N . J .
River Winds features an 18-hole championship course designed by Ed Shearon and shaped by Pete Fazio that is nestled in the grasslands between scenic Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River . There ’ s plenty of water to navigate on the links-style layout , including on the signature par-3 17th , where the green is surrounded by the Delaware on three sides , leaving precious little space for a bailout . Catch a glimpse of the Philadelphia skyline as you wind your way through the back nine . Former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski ’ s annual celebrity golf tournament moved to River Winds last year .
Head southwest to the suburb of West Chester to find Broad Run Golfer ’ s Club , a Rees Jones designed course set among 372 acres in the Pennsylvania Amish countryside . Jones is well known in Virginia circles for his work on the Green Course at the Golden
