Around The Commonwealth WOMEN’S SEASON-ENDING EVENT: The season-ending event, scheduled for Sept. 28 at Richmond’s Jefferson Lake- side CC, will have a new name and will now feature two-player teams rather than four-person teams. Look for more information later this year on VSGA.org. MULTI-FORMAT TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: This men’s event debuted in 2019 as the season-ending championship, held in October. In 2020, the Multi-Format Team Championship will open the VSGA men’s competition season in April. The Dominion Club in Glen Allen will host the two-day championship April 3-4. SUPER SENIOR CHANGES: For the first time, both the VSGA Super Senior Stroke Play Championship and Super Senior Four-Ball Championship will feature winners in three age groups—65 and over, 70 and over, and 75 and over— mirroring the format used in the VSGA Super Senior Amateur. The three age groups will play from different sets of tees. VSGA NET AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP: This new event features 36 holes of net stroke-play competition. The champion- ship—which is open to men and women— will be contested in divisions by age and gender. It is sched- uled for Sept. 21-22 at Fawn Lake Country Club in Spotsylvania. GOLF HERITAGE SOCIETY TURNS GOLDEN Armed with a new name, the Golf Heri- tage Society is poised to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020. Formerly the Golf Collectors Society, the GHS—a newly expand- ed non-profit global organization—is using its golden anniversary to broaden its reach throughout the great- er golf community. vsga.org The VSGA Multi-Format Team Championship moved to the front of the competitions calendar in 2020. The cost of becoming a member is $50 annually, and members are encouraged to “make it a foursome” by inviting three additional golf enthusiasts to join. Found- ed in 1970, the GHS recently changed its name, elected new leadership and extend- ed its membership to include all who love the game, including golfers of every play- ing ability, golf artists, historians and writ- ers, hickory golf devotees, and golf course designers. FIRST TEE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SET The inaugural First Tee National Champi- onship will be held June 21-26 at Clemson University. The event will bring together First Tee’s elite players (ages 14-19) for an opportunity to showcase how the program has helped build the strength of character needed to play at the collegiate or next level. The winners of both the girls’ and boys’ divisions will be awarded with the Tat- tersall Cup, named after First Tee trustee and 2019 VSGA President’s Award winner Fred Tattersall. Each winner will earn an exemption into the PGA Tour Champions’ PURE Insurance Championship Impact- ing the First Tee, held Sept. 18-20 at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
