Through the app, which is available for Apple and Android devices, golfers can receive customized workout plans, track workouts, log what they eat, and even chat with Griffiths with a single tap. Griffiths assesses GOLFJoy fitness pro- gram participants every four to six weeks, then puts together individualized exercise programs in the app, along with video demonstrations. “Her GolfJoy app makes it easy to do the exercises on my own time,” said 2018 Fredericksburg Country Club men’s club championship runner-up Stewart Pearl- man. “I’m amazed at my results from just two or three workouts per week.” that measures body weight, fat and lean mass percentages, and BMI. Crazy, huh? But high-tech isn’t for everyone. For those folks—and even those with the latest gadgets—Griffiths wants to emphasize two keys to long-term health, wellness and golf fitness. FITBIT IS A FAN FAVORITE There are plenty of high-tech golf gadgets available that can help you track swing paths, find lost balls or keep your putter level. Fitbit watches and bracelets can track your activity 24 hours a day, then sync with its proprietary app to show every- thing from heart rate to how much deep sleep you’re getting at night. For an even more custom, high-tech fitness solution, partner your Fitbit with the company’s Aria 2 smart scale—a wifi-enabled scale HYDRATION Proper hydration is also essential, espe- cially when playing golf in the coming heat. Don’t neglect pre-round hydration, and make sure to replace the electrolytes (sodium and potassium) and water you’ll sweat out during a round. “Drinking water alone is not enough when you are playing and sweating for over an hour in the heat,” Griffiths said. “A simple solution is drinking a sports beverage during play or adding a pinch of salt to your water.” Above all, remember this— your body is the most valu- able piece of equipment that you have. So invest in your health and fitness. You’ll be glad you did. vsga.org NUTRITION For our bodies to function optimally, we must feed ourselves properly.
