HOW TO PLAY IT

Mount Vernon is the only country club built on one of George Washington’ s original five farms.
Judging the wind direction is critical to playing the 16th successfully. For most players, the hole will require a short- or mid-iron but can play longer in certain wind conditions. Players must make a risk-reward decision about playing towards the middle of the large green vs. going at the pin for birdie. Pin locations on the front of the green bring the water short into play if golfers get too aggressive. Similarly, pin locations towards the back of the green bring the bunkers long and right into play and leave a very difficult up and down. Shots to the middle of the green will leave players with a good chance of making par but a tough birdie putt on the large green.
Mount Vernon’ s clubhouse beckons in the background of this tricky par 3.
