“All day, I just kept telling
myself, play aggressive
golf, play smart golf. …
You’ve got to play your
game. It doesn’t really
matter what anybody else
is doing. You can’t play
defense in golf.”
—David Jordan
David Jordan
made an opening-
round 65 hold up
at the 34th VSGA
Senior Stroke Play
Championship.
34th VSGA Senior Stroke Play
Championship
Cavalier Yacht & Golf Club,
Virginia Beach | June 11-12
For David Jordan, a bucket-list trip to
Scotland yielded more than just great golf.
It helped him get his game in order for the
coming championship season. He said he
found a swing thought on that trip that
helped him settle the tempo and rhythm
of his swing, and it paid off in the spring
when he won both the Richmond Golf
Association senior championship and the
VSGA Senior Stroke Play title. Jordan,
a member at Willow Oaks CC, posted a
two-day 137 to finish three strokes clear
of Cavalier members Bill Williard and
Jeff Flax and Martinsville’s Keith Decker.

Stroke Play Championship
Kingsmill Resort (Woods Course),
Williamsburg | June 3-4
Leon Roday had one of his most success-
ful golf seasons in 2017, when he won
the VSGA Mid-Senior Amateur Cham-
pionship. He kept extensive notes from
that year, and he referenced them prior
to the second round of this year’s Super
Senior Stroke Play. “It helped me with
my swing and my putting,” he said, and
Leon Roday earned his
second VSGA title by
winning the 34th VSGA
Super Senior Stroke
Play Championship.
