here are a lot of great golf resorts in the U.S., but
few cities in this country were built up around the
game in a manner similar to Myrtle Beach. The
60-mile stretch of coastline on South Carolina’s northern
border, which is just five hours by car from Richmond,
could be called “Golf City, USA” because it is so centered
on golf. The deals are hard to beat, too, since there is so
much competition for your dollar with more than 100
courses, 1,800 restaurants, and 90,000 hotel rooms.
With all the options, however, planning a trip can be a
little overwhelming. Fortunately, Myrtle Beach also has
plenty of golf packages, and one of the best is National
Golf Management, which books more than 60 percent
of all starting times and manages about 30 percent of
the golfers on the Grand Strand. They can also help you
secure lodging, which is typically in a course-side condo.
The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes Resort, for instance,
has expansive two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas and
suites, as well as one-bedroom guest rooms, with terrific
views of the Intracoastal Waterway (visit www.mbn.com
for more information).
