WEB. COM Q SCHOOL Former University of Virginia standout Ben Kohles, who currently resides in Reston, tied for 23rd at the Web. com Tour Q School Finals, earning him an exemption until the second periodic reorder of the 2017 Web. com season.
Kohles was one of two Virginians who advanced to the finals, which were held Dec. 8-11 in Florida. Past Delta Dental State Open of Virginia champion Lanto Griffin was also part of the 155-player field. By finishing in a tie for 53rd,
Griffin earned conditional status for the 2017 Web. com season.
Both Kohles and Griffin surged on the final day of the event, shooting 4-under par 68s to make their moves. Kohles moved up 10 spots on Sunday. Griffin made a 32-spot move. Kohles shot 72-69- 71-68 for a four-day 280. Griffin posted a 73-69-74-68 for a fourday 284. Jim Renner of Boston was the medalist, a fourth-round 63 helping him to a four-day 269 and a three-stroke victory. With his win, Renner is fully exempt for the 2017 Web. com season.
