Letters to the Editor
LETTER
Hell o,
I am a BIG fan of your
magazine having only
discovered the whole
vintage caravan scene
recently.
A couple of weeks ago I came across five
of your magazines in a 2nd hand shop.
Needless to say it was the best purchase
ever. My hubby and I have classic cars. I
have a 1964 EH Holden. After reading all
of the magazines front to back I decided a
vintage caravan is a must-have! I showed
my hubby and we both looked through
them all again and he too was hooked. So
we made a plan in the next five years we
will keep an eye out for a great vintage
caravan that’s cheap and needs a little
work. Here we are less than fourteen days
later sitting with a 1963 Roadmaster on
our front lawn. I am soooo excited. We
can’t seem to find many around so any
advice would be wonderful. I’d love to
send you pics too if you want to see
them. A little restoration is required to
bring it back to original but we love her
the way she is for now.
Thanks, keep up the great work.

PS: We also discussed names and after
reading on the rego about the previous
owners (deceased estate, the man was
89 and loved his van): his surname was
Rose. So we are calling our van Rosie!
Hi Julie,
Congratulations on your purchase and
welcome to the world of vintage vanning! I
am sure you will find plenty of inspiration
for your restoration in the magazine. I am
always happy to consider submissions
from our readers and
would love to see some
photos of your
Rosie when she is
done!
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Good to see Vintage Caravan back but
noticed the latest issue in a newsagents
last week but not in my mail box. Has my
subscription run out without my realising
it or is it just Australia Post taking its
sweet time? Thanks.
PETER
Hi Peter,
We do always send two reminders when
your subscription is due for renewal.
Unfortunately Australia Post stuffed up
big time with the delivery of issue 30.
Apparently they changed their processes
and the magazines were sent to a different
distribution centre than usual but the
paperwork had been sent to the previous
lodgement centre. So they sat undelivered
for almost two weeks before, after many
cranky phone calls and emails later, I
managed to find out what had happened
and sort it out. They have apologized
profusely and assured me it won’t happen
again. We are now printing the Australian
copies a week earlier to ensure that
subscribers get their copies before they
go on sale in the newsagents so hopefully
that solves the problem of
increasingly slow Australia
Post delivery times. Apologies to all our
Australian subscribers who got their
copies of issue 30 late as a consequence.
Lisa
Hi,
In your current copy of vintage caravan
mag you have a story on page 31
featuring mark and Karen Davis’s 1969
Olympic Contessa and 1961 Cadillac. I
was wondering if I could contact them
about the tow bar on that car and ask
where they got it from, as we have a
1962 Cadillac Coupe Deville and a 1967
Franklin caravan and were wanting a tow
bar for them and can’t find one anywhere.
Hoping you can help.
Thanks.
NIKKI
Hi Nikki,
The email contact I had for Mark & Karen
doesn’t seem to be working, so hopefully they
see this here and get in touch so I can pass
your details on to them and they can help
you to sort your tow bar out. I look forward
to seeing you out on the road one day!
Lisa
Correction:
In issue 29 (Sept/Oct) of the magazine
we did an article about Olympic Caravans
in Australia but we accidentally omitted
the last paragraph of the article. So for
those of you wanting contact details for
Bob Taylor and to list your Olympic on his
national register here is the paragraph
that was left out:
Bob Taylor (aka: “The Olympic Guru”) is
creating a register of all Olympic caravans
and their owners in Australia. The register
now has over 500 vans and continues to
grow with the help of Olympic ‘spotters’
all over Australia. If you know of an
Olympic that may not be on the register
contact Bob on: 0428 850 666 or by post
to: PO Box 37, Bogangar NSW 2488.
