EDITOR'S RAVE
W
ell another year has flown
by as I put together the
finishing touches to our
very last issue for 2016.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday
season and that you get to spend plenty
of time with the ones that you love.
I have very much enjoyed living as a gypsy
lately. This entire issue was, as many of
them have been, created, written and put
together on the road. As much as a like the
creature comforts that a home provides, I
have to say there is, and always has been,
a very strong urge for me to hit the road.
It is only when I do so, after some time
staying still, that I realize how much like
“home” the road actually feels to me. I
have also discovered on this latest road
trip that this is where most of my friends
are too! I know I have said it before, but
the truly wonderful thing about my job is
not just being able to discover, explore
and navigate my way around so many
amazing, remote, beautiful, exotic and
breathtaking places, sights and scenery
that there are to enjoy in this world, but
also meeting so many interesting people
from so many places. The friendships that
this role has allowed me to develop with
people from all over the countryside is
something for which I am truly thankful.
Certain things about my outlook have
had to change lately and I, who used to
often get called “hyperactive”, have had
to learn to slow down and accept my
limitations, but my desire to keep having
more road tripping adventures has not
waned one bit. The only difference now
is that instead of rushing from A to B, I
take my time and savor every moment.
Instead of driving for seven hours a day,
I’ll drive four. I stop more often, I take
my shoes off and walk barefoot on the
ground and breathe in the scents and
marvel at the colors. I am making sure I
fully appreciate the beauty of every thing
I see and feel and know better now than
to ever take anything for granted. The
road is my happy place.
This trip has been just perfect. I have
caught up with subscribers all over the
country, I have camped on curbs, had
dinners cooked for me, attended several
events, done a whole bunch of photos
shoots and conducted interviews for this
and future issues. I’ve sampled wines at
the wineries of the Yarra Valley, had lunch
in the caravan on the side of the road
whilst overlooking rolling green hills, had
marvelous fun spending time with my
son, and other friends met from pervious
road trips or events and made a whole
lot of new ones. To all of you who have
shown me so much love and hospitality
during this epic journey (you know who
you are!) I just want to say thank you so
much for making this trip such a special
one. Big hugs to you all…
Yeah, this life thing, it’s not too bad…
See you on the road!
