Murray & Julie White’s 1967 Ford Fairlane Compact and 1950 home built caravan Our hosts Mad Max & Jenny Green By the time I arrived at Old Dadswell Town, about sixteen other vintage vans and hot rods were already there with a few more arriving the next day. The giggles began as I drove down the driveway and it was obvious that our hosts had a great sense of humour and that this was going to be a top weekend. I rolled in to find my camping space had been reserved with a “Lisa’s Spot” sign right next to the outback dunny that was to be my ensuite for the weekend. The self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the “town” (it says so on the front of his house!) Mad Max and his wife Jenny greeted me warmly and said how much they appreciated me making the effort to come down and continued to make me feel like a member of the family all weekend. On Friday night we had a barbeque feast in the “Town Hall” which has retro paraphernalia and licence plates covering every inch of the walls and had a roaring fire blazing all weekend long. This was where we communed in the evenings for meals, chats on the lounges by the fire. On Saturday night we were treated to live music by Neil Higgins who, in amongst a selection of Aussie classics had also written and sang for us a catchy little ditty about vintage caravans. It was awesome! vintagecaravanmagazine | 41
