am happy to report that my second
attempt at a big Aussie road trip from
Queensland to Victoria was a lot more
successful than last year’s one was.
Despite extensive flooding along the
Newell Highway, Betty and I managed to
navigate our way around (and sometimes
through!) flooded roads to get to Old Dadswell Town for
the vintage caravan gathering.
I loved every minute of this road trip and really took
my time, stopping in with other vintage vanners on the
way. In Warwick I caught up with Lisa and Louis and got
photos for our cover story of this issue, then over the
border into New South Wales I caught up and camped
on the curb with Kris and Bizzi in Dubbo. The next day
I caught up with Kristy in Parkes before setting off to
a very water-soaked Forbes and then pushing through
flooded roads to Narrandera. With reports of even worse
flooding ahead I stayed an extra night in Narrandera
to catch up on work and rest up a bit before pushing
through on Friday for the long haul to Victoria and
Dadswell Bridge.
I have passed through Dadswells Bridge before on
the way to Hall’s Gap and had a photo of Betty with the
Giant Koala, but I had to stop and get another. You gotta
love the big things!
