Originally the van had two single
beds that were all filled with horse hair
and were really hard”, Bronte tells me, “but
Don got the original plans for the double
bed configuration for the Clippers from
the vintage caravan forum and converted
the single beds to a double bed”.
The colours they chose for the
Clipper were the original colours of
cream with the green stripe, but when the
FC came along, they changed the stripe
colour on the caravan to make it match
the original FC colour that was listed on
the car’s compliance plate: Corsair Tan.
The result is a super stylish combination
that looks historically picture
perfect, but contains all the functionality,
practicality and reliability of its modern
counterparts. The interior of the caravan
is adorned with early 1950s memorabilia
and decorative touches while still
retaining the original fifties décor such as
the marbled moss green bench and table
top and the old checkered lino flooring
that even has one tile of a clipper ship
on it. The end result is a perfect blend
of classic fifties beauty with modern
functionality – a very rare and desirable
combination indeed. It’s no wonder
Don and Bronte are keen to hit the road
whenever they can.
“Our next events will be the one in
Meningie and then Loxton. Our favourite
outing by far, apart from this one at Old
Dadswell Town, was the South West Rocks
for the Nationals, that was fabulous.”
Bronte recalls. “For us, the best part of
owning a vintage caravan is all the lovely
people we get to meet and the places we
get to go to”.
One thing is for sure, when Don and
Bronte hit the road, they certainly are
cruising in style! VCM
