STORM SHUTTERS As a homeowner or renter in VillageWalk you will want to have your home prepared in case of severe storms and the possibility of a hurricane. During the first half of construction many homes were sold anticipating such storms. Storm shutters and associated hardware were included in the purchase of these homes. If you are one of those owners or renters you will want to check to see that you have the following materials and are aware of what needs to be done to install your shutters. If you do not have storm shutters and want additional information on companies in the Orlando area please contact Dex Dexter at 407-286-3889. If you would like to have a FREE hands-on demonstration/participation of storm shutter installation at your home please contact Dex to arrange a day and time. I am not affiliated with any company, nor do I charge for my time. This is a free service provided by a retired teacher who is also your Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for VillageWalk. What you should have on hand: 1. Storm Shutter CD, with step-by-step-instructions. If you are unable to find your CD please contact Dex. 2. Storm Shutters, stacked against the wall in your garage. 3. A sack of bolts and wing nuts. 4. Iron railings for bolting down the shutters at the front door and back glass sliding doors (depending on the model home your live in). 5. A drawing, showing the number and location for each storm shutter panel. What you will need, to install the shutters: 1. Large Phillips-head screwdriver. 2. A pair of heavy-duty work gloves. What I recommend you wear, for your safety: 1. Hard toed shoes. 2. Long-sleeved shirt. 3. Pants, not shorts. Things to be aware of: 1. On many of the homes the screws along the back sliding glass doors were painted over, making it very difficult to unscrew them. You may want to use a large Phillips-head bit and power drill to break the screws loose way before a storm alert is issued. Add a bit of grease and reinstall the screws. 2. Check the metal strips that hold the shutters at the bottom of the front door and back sliding glass doors to be sure the holes line up. 3. Check your shutters to be sure they are numbered correctly, match the diagram, and you have the correct amount. OSCEOLA PET NANNIES Chris McCready Loving care...When you’re not there!
