Taizé Service
Sunday 25 August
5.00pm at St. Mary's Church
Old Alresford
After the previous Taizé service on the 28th April, one of the cantors, Christina Relf, sent this reflection:
When I was asked to be a cantor at the Taizé service at St Mary’s Church in Old Alresford in
April, I didn’t know quite what to expect. I was looking forward to participating in a peaceful,
calming service that would help focus the mind and centre the thoughts. A couple of practices
with Gail put me on the right track, but that didn’t stop me being nervous just before the service!
I needn’t have worried. Everyone was made to feel welcome and instantly at ease. The church
was simply but beautifully decorated, with gentle incense and glowing candles creating a soft
and relaxed mood. There were plenty of people in the pews ready to try a new style of worship
in which we could all participate, as we sang our way through the service. I very much look
forward to attending another Taizé service.
