OLD ALRESFORD VILLAGE FAIR 15th June, 2013 Once again there was a great team spirit as Old Alresford prepared for the Village Fair on the Green. Strong winds and squally rain made setting up stalls tricky and the Grand Draw and Bar decided to take shelter in the Christy Hall with the Teas. Gazebos were only put out just before the fair opened but we were lucky as the wind dropped and the rain held off for a couple of hours to give us a window of opportunity. Sadly the Community Choir had had to withdraw and was unable to entertain in the arena but the Dog Show was as popular as ever and Graham Everett did a great job judging the canine competitors. Hunt the Hound Treasure Hunt had the children scurrying all over the Green to find Horace, Hugo, Humphrey and the rest of the pack and Tamsin’s was the winning entry drawn from the magnificent kennel made by Steve Patey. The Brook plays an important part in the Fair and we usually have remote-controlled boats for hire. Sadly the Eastleigh Model Boat Club had their club house at Twyford burgled on the previous evening and their equipment stolen. They did however bring along some beautiful models to display. The Duck Race is always a jolly event and so popular this year that we ran out of ducks! The stalls were laden with goods all kindly donated. The ever-popular Bottle stall was heaving with bottles and the Cake stall beautifully presented. Watercress and spinach donated by The Watercress Company sold like ‘hot cakes’ on the Produce stall and the Book stall, Bric-a-Brac and Toys stall had bargains galore for their customers. Old Alresford Village Fair is very traditional and non-commercial and always has plenty of fun sideshows and activities to e
