Reaching Ghana ’ s Villages

with the JESUS Film

“ I am not sure if we will be able to show the JESUS film tonight . The heavy rains may flood our road ,” Reverend Divine Galley told me . Reverend Galley is the national coordinator of OMS ’ Village Church Planting ( VCP ) ministry in Ghana . I have traveled around Ghana several times with him , so when he tells me something may not be safe , I trust him wholeheartedly . However , on this trip , I had two visitors with me from the United States . This was their first trip to Africa , and they came specifically to show the JESUS film . I hoped and prayed that they would have a great first trip in which they could accomplish this goal . Reverend Galley came back to me with a new plan . He said , “ There is a village nearby where we can show the film . The roads are still in good condition there , and it is not far . We can make it there and back safely .”
Stories like this are common in Africa . Despite inclement weather , poor infrastructure , and other challenges , the Gospel goes forth into villages . All over the continent , men and women faithfully live out the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18- 20 by using the JESUS film backpack projection kits . They use the JESUS film to evangelize and plant churches . The process usually works like this : 1 ) Local leaders determine a village that has no church . They make a plan to go to that village and show the JESUS film , sometimes as many as three times . 2 ) They use the projection kits that The JESUS Film Project generously donates to OMS . These kits include a projector , a screen , a speaker , and everything else needed to show the film in the local language . 3 ) After watching the film and viewing the life , death , and resurrection of Christ , it is common for people
