Testing for the Elementary and Junior High
Mountainview students took the annual Stanford Achievement Test, which started on April 2, 2013. It is an online test that covers English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. For three weeks, every Elementary and Junior High student was required to participate in the school computer labs. Their scores were then compared with the scores of students from other schools. According to Mr. Martin, the Stanford Testing helps schools identify the strengths and weaknesses of their students. Furthermore, it evaluates the teachers’ performance in the classroom. Teachers can use the results to identify areas where the students need the most academic development. Although the testing might have been long and tiresome for the students, it was an opportunity for the administration to improve the general education system at Mountainview.

Interviewing the 6th Graders
By Min Hwa Son
Since we are at the end of our school year, I began to wonder about the sixth graders. I wanted to know what they were feeling and what they were looking forward to in junior high. So I asked some of the upcoming 7th graders the following questions: 1) How does it feel to be almost done with elementary? 2) What is your favorite memory in elementary? 3) What are your concerns or fears about going to middle / high school? 4) What do you look forward to in middle / high school? 5) How or what are you preparing for next year? 6) What is your advice to next year’ s 6th grade class?
