As for Cedar Grove, Reed has breathed new life into what many call the“ crown jewel of Vicksburg.” Built by John Alexander Klein for his bride, Elizabeth, the Greek Revival brick home passed through many hands since construction was completed in 1840 becoming worn from years of use. But in 2022, Reed, her husband and then-partner Harley Caldwell purchased the mansion and restored it to its full glory, which is now operating as a fully functioning bed-and-breakfast, where guests can sleep, dine, and enjoy a living piece of Vicksburg’ s history.
Along with its role as a luxury inn, the Inn at Cedar Grove serves as an event venue for weddings, receptions, and parties and it has a sophisticated and stylish bar along with the Cedar Grove Restaurant, which is open daily.
In adding a bit of her own
flair, once a month Reed hosts themed wine dinners, which have become a popular outing for locals.
As a sommelier, Reed pairs wines with menus crafted by her chef, creating evenings that are both elegant and memorable. One Italian-themed dinner, for instance, featured fine cuisine paired with wines from Italy. And for a full-on Italian experience, Reed even invited car enthusiasts to showcase their Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, and Maserati on the mansion’ s lawn so guests could get a close up look at the luxury vehicles.
Reed said in hosting these events she gets the opportunity to“ stretch” her wine knowledge all while creating a fun experience.“ At the same time, my chef loves that he can explore, instead of just cooking the same thing every night. He gets the opportunity to stretch a little, too,” she said.
