After several prototypes and adjustments, the team successfully created two customized devices that allowed the student to play the violin. This story beautifully exemplifies the creativity, compassion and teamwork that define our district.
Community members also play a vital role in supporting and enriching our schools. In December, more than 200 volunteers helped White Bear Lake Area High School host“ Test Drive... Next Stop Reality,” an engaging event that helps juniors navigate real-world budgeting and decisionmaking, by having students select a career of interest and determine the post-secondary education or training required to get there.
Students then visit interactive stations focused on housing, transportation, childcare, insurance and more. The activity was such a success that our Area Learning Center followed suit, offering a similar experience for ALC students.
Volunteers have also supported tenth graders through an entrepreneurial experience modeled after the TV show Shark Tank. Students developed, researched and defended original ideas for products or programs designed to make the world a better place.
Community volunteers served as judges and provided constructive feedback on the students’“ Bear Tank” pitches.
In April, tenth graders will once again benefit from the wisdom of local professionals during our annual Mock Interviews. Volunteers will serve as interviewers for generic job openings and offer feedback on students’ professional communication skills.
This immersive experience is often one of students’ first formal interviews and provides an invaluable opportunity to practice real-world interactions in a supportive environment.
Each of these moments – from academic excellence and career readiness to acts of compassion and community collaboration – reflects what makes our district truly special. Together, our students, staff, families and community members continue to create an environment where learning thrives and connections grow.
Go Bears!
