to participate in the VHEDC Young Professionals Program .
“ These were all opportunities I never had seen for myself . I was a bartender before working at Buerkle ,” she said . “ With Nancy ’ s help and the people that I ’ ve met I was able to use those skills and those connections to help me believe in myself even more and make even further advances .”
After going through the program , Carey was first promoted to the position of inventory manager , and then sales where she is now working .
In addition to her pride in the accomplishments of past participants like Carey , Hoglund said she is proud of the fact that many who have gone through the program continue to come back year-after-year to support the new cohorts . “ I enjoy bringing former participants back to meet with the group and serve as both speakers and panelists . That adds so much value because participants who were in the program before are now the people who are the leaders , and the people the current participants are learning from ,” said Hoglund .
Past NMYP participants are now serving in the Minnesota Legislature , on the Vadnais Heights City Council , at the White Bear Area Food Shelf and Vadnais Heights Area Community Foundation . They are also on several nonprofit and community boards , in senior leadership positions at the YMCA , and there are also some serving on the VHEDC Board of Directors and on various committees .
“ I feel very proud about how people are really taking their leadership skills , and putting themselves out there into these community roles . The other thing I ’ ve seen that is really exciting is how people who ’ ve gone through the program are networking , and using their skills to take on new challenges ,” said Hoglund . As program participants say … the program never really ends . Networking , events and coaching continue for past participants and the collective group grows .
Participants for the 2023 NMYP cohort have already been selected . The deadline for companies to nominate employees for the 2024 program will be in mid-December 2023 .

This unique year-long cohort engages current and emerging leaders who are committed to personal growth , career advancement , civic engagement , and service to the northeast metro region . Selected participants typically range between the ages of 21-to-39 , and include all sectors and industries . This program is going into its eighth year in 2024 , and has gained an excellent reputation and attracted outstanding participants .
Candidates : Work and / or live in the Northeast Metro area .
Have an interest to further develop their leadership skills and civic involvement .
Want to contribute greater value to their organization . Desire to be part of a network supporting other young professionals . Monthly Sessions :
January through December 2024 on the second Tuesday of each month from 8:30 a . m . -11 a . m . for the monthly cohort program . ( Schedule to be provided to registered participants .) Monthly networking , social hours and invitations to other events .
Cost is $ 500 for the year for VHEDC Investors or $ 750 for non-Investors , with individuals being sponsored by their organization .
Program Includes :
Team training and individual leadership coaching from Nancy Hoglund , President of Hoglund Coaching , LLC .
Guest speakers , behind-the-scenes tours and community service projects . Social events and special networking with the larger NMYP community .
Past participants have achieved professional success as well as established life-long relationships .
