FAQ'S & RESOURCES
FREQUENT QUESTIONS FROM VETERAN STUDENTS
I’ve changed my class schedule. Do I need to tell anyone?
Are you receiving VR&E services or Federal Education benefits? If you are, then you
should contact the SCO. (See Withdrawals and Non-Punitive Grades on pg 14) Are
you receiving only the WI GI Bill? You do not need to submit any additional
paperwork.
Who do I contact if I have questions regarding the payment of my
Federal Education Benefits?
Unfortunately, the college does not know exactly how much money and when the
VA will be paying you for any of the federal education benefits. You may call the VA
at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) . Another great resource to check on your
payments is by creating an ebenefits account at www.ebenefits.va.gov. You can
manage your benefits, track your status, and check on your VA payment history on
this website.
Do I have to verify my attendance to the VA every month?
Only students who are using Chapters 30, 1606, and 1607 have to contact the VA
monthly and verify attendance on the last day or after to receive their pay. VA
Contact information: 1-877-823-2378 or https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave.
Chapter 35 students will be contacted by the VA directly if a verification is needed.
Can I apply for Financial Aid if I am using my VA benefits?
Yes you can and we encourage all of our student veterans to apply. There are several
types of financial aid to choose from including grants, scholarships, and loans if
necessary. Please stop in the Welcome Center for help applying to Financial Aid.
Is there help if I am having problems with my grades or teachers?
Yes. Please reach out to the Veterans’ Advisor to discuss any difficult situations you
are facing with school. The Veterans’ Advisor will also be able to explore additional
resources such as tutoring, counseling services, or accommodation services.
I need help with books, tools, or other equipment for school. Is there any
assistance besides my veteran education benefits?
Oftentimes there are community and other school resources available for students
needing help paying for unexpected expenses. Please stop by the Veterans’ Resource
Center to see what options are available for you. This also applies to students who are
suddenly facing difficulties with paying for rent, food, or childcare. Please do not be
afraid to ask for help.
