Branches of the public power

The executive power

Represented by the President of the Republic, who acts as Head of State and Head of Government. It is also composed of ministers, directors of administrative departments and superintendents, who have the primary function of guaranteeing the fulfillment of the rights and duties of all Colombians. At the regional level it is represented by governors and mayors.

The legislative power

Represented by the Congress of the Republic (Senate and House of Representatives). Among its most important functions are: promulgating and amending laws, reforming the Constitution, exercising political control over government actions and electing senior officials from the judiciary, control bodies and the Electoral Organization.

The judicial power

He is in charge of administering justice in our country, so in some cases this function is exercised by the other branches of power or by individuals. The judicial branch ensures compliance with the law and punishes its offenders. According to the Constitution, the judiciary is made up of the Office of the Attorney General and four other bodies, known collectively as the High Court: the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Council of State and the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
