Distracted Driving Awareness Month
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month , which lines up well for us to review the following safe driving tips from AARP . They apply to everyone , from the newest drivers to older adults who may notice driving becoming more difficult over time .
Stay focused . Manage non-driving tasks before getting on the road . For example , eating , drinking , programming GPS , or securing a pet in the vehicle should be done before leaving for the destination . Pull over to talk – hands-free phone technology can still take our minds off the road . Don ’ t drive drowsy . Coffee is not always the answer ! Consider the time of day when making travel plans . If we can avoid drowsy driving , a common safety issue late at night , we can improve the odds of arriving at our destination safely . Changes that happen with age may affect our ability to drive safely , including vision loss , medical conditions , and increased anxiety . Recognizing when it may be time to stop driving is an upsetting decision , but it is a vitally important one . JOB POSTING : CTE SUPERINTENDENT / DIRECTOR
The Southwest Vermont Regional Technical School District seeks a highly motivated and experienced Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) leader to oversee our District . The CTE Superintendent / Director is a hybrid role responsible for leading the development , implementation , and evaluation of all aspects of our CTE initiatives . This role requires a dynamic leader who can collaborate effectively with faculty , staff , administrators , industry partners , and community stakeholders to ensure our CTE programs meet the needs of our students and align with industry standards .
General Overview of Responsibilities :
• Provide strategic leadership and vision for the CTE programs , ensuring alignment with the organization ’ s mission and goals .
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to recruit , train , and support CTE instructors , ensuring they have the resources and professional development opportunities needed to excel in their roles .
• Establish partnerships with industry leaders , professional organizations , and community stakeholders to enhance CTE program offerings and provide students with real-world learning experiences , internships , and job placement opportunities .
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of CTE programs through data analysis , stakeholder feedback , and continuous improvement processes .
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing CTE programs and maintain accreditation standards .
• Manage budgetary resources effectively , seeking additional funding opportunities through grants , partnerships , and other sources to support the growth and sustainability of CTE programs .
• Serve as a liaison between the organization , educational institutions , government agencies , and community organizations to promote the value of CTE and advocate for resources and support .
Minimum Requirements :
• Master ’ s degree in education , educational leadership , or a related field
• Ability to obtain Vermont Educator License ( 5440-92 CTE Director ) and ( 5440-90 Superintendent )
• Three or more years of PK-12 teaching experience as a licensed Educator and three ( 3 ) or more years of educational administration experience as a licensed administrator
• Three ( 3 ) or more years of experience in PK-16 , career technical education , or teaching or workforce development / training ( e . g ., training management in business or industry , vocational training or counseling , management of a post-secondary continuing education program )
• Two ( 2 ) or more years of employment experience in a career cluster , or the equivalent in documented experience , working collaboratively with business and industry regarding matters of career and workforce development ( e . g ., serving on a chamber of commerce , or as a Workforce Investment Board member )
Desired Qualifications
• Administrative or leadership experience in an educational setting , preferably at the building level .
• Strong knowledge of current trends , best practices , and regulations related to CTE programming .
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with industry , community , and educational stakeholders .
• Excellent communication , interpersonal , and leadership skills .
• Demonstrated commitment to equity , diversity , and inclusion in education .
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and lead change initiatives .
