STEVENSON DAY AT BOORDY VINEYARDS
After a brief hiatus , alumni , families , and friends gathered for Stevenson Day at Boordy Vineyards on September 11 . The popular annual alumni event featured beautiful weather , food vendors , and live music . SU guests received Stevenson Wine Bags .
STARLIPER APPLIED FINANCE LAB RIBBON CUTTING
On September 21 , Stevenson University dedicated the Dennis A . Starliper Applied Finance Lab located in the Brown School of Business and Leadership . Named for business faculty member Dennis Starliper , who donated the funds to create the lab , the Starliper Lab features digital stock tickers and multiple market data displays and serves as a sophisticated teaching and research tool to enhance our students ’ career readiness by developing their command of financial technology platforms and investment decisionmaking processes .
FOUNDERS DAY
October 1 marked the 74th anniversary of Stevenson University ’ s founding in 1947 as Villa Julie College . A special social media campaign honored our past , celebrated our present , and looked toward our future . Students enjoyed special Founders Day treats including hot dogs and ice cream on the Owings Mills quad before ending the day with the annual Founders Day Talent Show .
HOMECOMING AND FAMILY WEEKEND
Homecoming and Family Weekend kicked off on October 22 with the SU Golf Open at Piney Branch Golf Club , home course to the current men ’ s and women ’ s golf teams . Over 120 golfers came out to the course for a Captain ’ s Choice event followed by a luncheon . The event raised $ 17,000 in support of our Mustang student-athletes .
Later that evening , members of the 2021 Dick Watts Athletics Hall of Fame Class were honored with a celebration and induction ceremony on the Owings Mills campus . The 2020 class included six former student-athletes : Allison ( Humphries ) Cuneo ’ 11 of women ’ s soccer , Tanisha Foster ’ 08 of women ’ s basketball , men ’ s volleyball standout J . R . Jackson ’ 09 , Steve Kazimer ’ 10 of men ’ s lacrosse , Matt Lukehart ’ 10 of men ’ s golf , and Lauren ( Zegowitz ) Howard ’ 10 of women ’ s lacrosse . In addition , current men ’ s and women ’ s golf head coach and former Assistant Athletic Director and women ’ s basketball Head Coach Chris Ramer was inducted as a contributor . The Hall of Fame also recognized the 2010 women ’ s lacrosse team as a Team of Tradition .
TAILGATE AND FOOTBALL
On October 23 , the Owings Mills North parking lot filled with alumni , friends , and families for the annual Homecoming tailgate . The event featured two food trucks in addition to classic attractions . After a spirited performance by the SU Marching Band , Stevenson football tightened up defensively in the second half for an exciting 29-24 win against MAC rival Widener University .
SPRING EVENT PREVIEW
Spring 2022 is set to be filled with traditional events that have been missed over the last 21 months .
In early March , the Career Connection Center will host a special virtual networking event for current students and alumni as part of Mustang Career Mentors .
April will bring generous individuals , foundations , and corporate partners to the Owings Mills Campus to celebrate scholarship recipients during the annual Scholarship Luncheon .
A few weeks later , alumni celebrating milestone reunion years will gather for a Reunion Brunch . Special recognition will be given to alumni entering the Jubilarian Society .
Take me out to the Ballpark ! Mustangs will return to Camden Yards for Stevenson Night in mid-June .
