SU Nursing Excellence : Saluting Judy Feustle

On a beautiful spring day , May 24 , the University gathered to celebrate a unique and lasting legacy of excellence to Stevenson .
“ The development of a vibrant nursing program doesn ’ t just happen ; it requires the vision and hard work of a dedicated leader who can inspire those around here to do their best ,” said President Hirshman . “ This has been Judy .”
This spring , Judith Feustle , ScD , RN , Associate Dean and Chief Nurse Administrator , concluded a 31-year career at Stevenson that was nothing short of superlative . It started in 1991 when Dr . Feustle created the Entry-Into-Practice Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Villa Julie , an outgrowth of a three-year diploma program at Union Memorial Hospital . In 1999 , she established Stevenson ’ s RN-to-BS program , and in 2010 the Master of Science in Nursing degree . Dr . Feustle didn ’ t stop there . She worked to ensure the accreditation of these programs and sought new opportunities to expand nursing education at SU by adding new concentrations to the Master ’ s program and launching the Associate-to-Bachelor ’ s Nursing program in 2015 .

— Merrie Durmowicz , Ph . D ., for millions of dollars in grants to support faculty , students , curricular innovation , and infrastructure for the nursing programs . But above all this , Dr . Feustle will always be known for the highest professionalism , integrity , tireless dedication , and collegiality that endeared her to colleagues and students on campus and to her peers in the Maryland nursing and healthcare community .

D ., who served as Dean of the Fine School of the Sciences and Interim Dean of the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions . “ I have admired and learned from Judy and her ability to see the positive side of everything and everyone . She is the embodiment of the servant leader and I consider myself blessed and lucky to have had the opportunity to work so closely with and learn from her .”
