PRESIDENT ’ S PERSPECTIVE
This issue of Ventures reaches you shortly after we have welcomed more than 850 new students — first-year , transfer , and doctoral — for the start of the 2022-2023 academic year . Over the last year , we have been and will continue to focus on campus renewal at Stevenson .
Simply put , campus renewal means reinvigorating and strengthening the value and the experiences of a Stevenson education . As you will clearly see this in this issue of Ventures — the momentum and direction of the university is strong . From extraordinary student achievement to enhancing career connections for our students from the start of their freshman year ; from extensive new facilities and campus expansions that are dramatically illustrated in our latest aerial view of campus ( see page 2 ) to new career-focused academic programs and new athletic opportunities in men ’ s and women ’ s sports .
These and more are adding to the excitement on campus as we head into the 2022-2023 academic year , which is also the 75th anniversary year of the university ’ s founding in 1947 . Our Winter / Spring issue of Ventures that will publish later this year will focus on our first three-quarters of a century as an institution .
As we look forward , we also use this issue of Ventures to reflect on the traditions and individuals who have had such an impact on the trajectory of our university . This includes the retiring Dr . Judy Feustle , who was so critical in building our nursing programs over three decades , and the late Dr . H . Rose Dawson , who with her friend and colleague , late Villa Julie President Carolyn Manuszak , was essential to laying the foundations for the fouryear the comprehensive university that the College has become . These individuals , among many others , testify to the caring , close-knit community that has been a foundational value of our institution from its beginnings .
Renewal starts with building on the strengths and traditions that we have always had — caring community , making career connections , and creating opportunities for extraordinary experiences that can inspire our students ’ sense of confidence , direction , and vision .
It ’ s a great day to be a Mustang !
Sincerely ,
Elliot L . Hirshman , Ph . D .
