PRESIDENT ’ S PERSPECTIVE
This issue of Ventures reaches you as we near the end of summer and look forward to the start of our 2023-2024 Academic Year . There is great excitement and optimism as this will be the year when many changes and enhancements to our campus come to fruition and become part of the Stevenson experience .
These include our new Philip A . Zaffere Library on North campus , a new makerspace and Biomedical Engineering lab in the Manning Academic Center , and the new Center for Student Life and Leadership in our Garrison Student Union ( formerly called Garrison Hall ). This past spring , we also opened our new East campus sports and recreation facilities . We invite our Stevenson alumni , parents , and friends to see our growing university and cheer on the Mustangs this coming year .
In addition to creating exceptional experiences for our students , we have also worked to strengthen and expand their opportunities for making career connections — a hallmark of a Stevenson education . Our feature focus is The Mill , our student-run design , advertising , and communications agency that brings students together from across majors — including Graphic Design , Business Communications , and Marketing . The Mill students work collaboratively and create marketing and communications campaigns for clients ranging from non-profits and performing arts venues to healthcare institutions and culinary entrepreneurs .
We are also growing our popular Professional Minors programs . These programs give our students an opportunity to shape their Stevenson experience to meet specific professional goals and gain additional knowledge , skills and on-the-job experience — all with the goal of giving them a competitive edge in the job market .
Of course , the development of our campus facilities and educational experiences would not be possible without the generosity of alumni and friends who have and continue to give to Stevenson in so many ways . Their giving has been transformational — and not just for our campus , but for our students ’ lives . In this issue of Ventures , you will learn about gifts that are greatly expanding scholarship opportunities for our students .
Lastly , this past year we celebrated our 75th Anniversary . In honor of this occasion , we present memories of alumni from across the decades , telling us how Villa Julie and Stevenson made their college years special , helped them discover a career direction , and gave them friendships for a lifetime . Their stories remind us of the mission and the values that continue to inspire our Stevenson community .
It ’ s a great day to be a Mustang !
Sincerely ,
Elliot L . Hirshman , Ph . D .
