We left off last month with discussing the importance of doing something to live your passion this interesting bit:
“My wife is 132 years old, of course I am exaggerating, but I can’t give her real age, but she gave a class recently, an orientation, and she stressed the importance of doing something to live your passion, that it will make you younger. She asked, “how old do you think I am?” These twenty year old kids were guessing and thought she was twenty-eight, thirty-two, thirty-six and when she said her age (I’ve never seen her do this publically) but she did in this instance and they didn’t believe it. They were falling out of their chairs.” OK, I will give here age since has has done so several times since the interview: She is 56.

VIA:
So, living your passion will keep you young?
DAN:
You see, my wife and I are living proof of that. I don’t think I look any younger than I am but I am happy, I am fulfilled. I have such a fortunate situation to be interviewing famous drummers and educators all over the world. I have so much fun doing what I am doing and it’s the hardest I’ve ever worked in my life. So if you folks take your passion whatever that is and you really learn the business part of it and really learn how to market and promote it, if your work is good you’ll get somewhere. There are so many talented people, Annette, that are so good whether it is the visual arts, the performing arts, whatever it is. I want to say something very important to everybody.
The quality of your product or service means nothing if you can’t get it to your target market. It doesn’t matter how good a musician you are, how good a painter you are, how good a dancer you are, how good a fashion designer you are, how good a rapper you are, a DJ…none of that matters if no one knows about it…unless it’s a hobby. If you want to make a living doing what you love, if you really are that good, you should be doing that to fulfill yourself and set an example for others that will follow in your footsteps. The same way you have done your best to follow in the footsteps of people who have influenced you.

Doing what you love is everyone’s dream. How do you really gage success, and whether or not you going in the right direction?
