At Varsity College we believe the student experience extends beyond the classroom . Our sporting programmes cater for everyone , with events ranging from national intervarsity USSA tournaments to more laid back , social sporting get togethers . In order to participate in sport at Varsity College , you must be registered with the VC Sports Club , and there are plenty of different sports to get involved in . Students are encouraged to sign up with the VC Sports Club during registration , and from there get involved with whatever is on offer at their specific campus . The VC Sports Club caters for the semi-professional to the social athlete .
For students who are team sport orientated , Varsity College offers the following major sports clubs : VC Rugby Club , VC Water Polo Club , VC Hockey Club , VC Netball Club and the VC Football Club , in addition to , various action sports clubs ( soccer , netball , cricket , hockey , touch rugby / TAG rugby ) and social internal campus leagues . Not every campus offers all these team sport clubs because we have created centres of excellence for major team sports at designated campuses . Rugby and Hockey Clubs are based at the Durban North campus and the 1st teams from both clubs compete for top spots in their respective KZN Premier Leagues . The VC Football Club at Sandton play in the University Sport South Africa ( USSA ) and in the local Rand Central Football league . The Water Polo Club is based at Westville and the Netball Club at Cape Town . Varsity College also participates in twelve different USSA ( University Sports South Africa ) tournaments and has achieved great success in recent years . With regards to the Action Sports Clubs , certain campuses have teams that compete at top levels in their local leagues and other social leagues .
Our Sports Life Clubs focus on outdoor lifestyle activities that are fun , healthy and geared towards the individual . These include sports such as mountain biking , running , canoeing , surfskiing , golf , surfing and triathlons , the sort of activities that once you start , you ’ ll likely keep doing for the rest of your life . Our Sports Life Clubs cater for both competitive and social athletes and provide a great opportunity for students to get outdoors and get active while meeting new people .
Students who are passionate and have the knowledge and administrative skills to run a Club on campus play the role of Sports Club Captain in their respective disciplines . These captains are responsible for : organising training , scheduling racing opportunities , confirming team lists and assisting beginners who would like to get involved . Campuses are equipped with extra ski ' s , boats , bikes and boards for newbie members to learn on .
Students at the top levels of their sport or those who believe they have the skills to be a Sports Club Captain are encouraged to talk to us about available sports bursaries .
Sporting activities on campus are overseen by the Sport Coordinator ( SC ), who works alongside the Sports Club Captains to make it all happen .
