A BLUE LABELED HERITAGE
Culture has always been associated with Heritage Day in South Africa, and at most times when we think culture we think tribes, which is not bad by any means, the point here is that cultural and traditional wear have become more fashionable, and the concept of culture has been shifting slowly from cultural/traditional clothing being the symbol of Heritage to embracing an inclusive society that is more global than just focused on one specific “culture”.
I am making the above statement because Johnnie Walker South Africa this Heritage Day made a more inclusive contribution in celebrating culture in South Africa, in simple ways we would not usually associate with Heritage Day, but when looking at them in depth we get to realize how important they are to our heritage not just as people of a certain tribe, but as human beings as a collective and this place we call home.
What many people might see as an adventure is actually a very deep lesson in what life was before we knew it today, and to be part of that journey, to spend that 1 hour exploring the sterkfontein caves opens your mind in how privileged we are in today’s world to have all these choices when it comes to living our lives. Seeing how back in those years life was constantly a dangerous journey, not saying there no dangers today, but we are more informed about them and where we go; back in those years life was what we could not survive as today’s people. I wish I could go deeper in the feelings of excitement and danger that I felt when exploring the caves, but I would write a book if I don’t stop.
stop.
Almost an hour away from the Sterkfontein caves I found myself back in my home province (North West Province) with a sign written “Ventersdorp 100”, realizing that I was literally a few minutes away from my late uncle’s farm.
Arriving at Moledi Gorge, my attention was captured immediately by the view of nature’s beauty from the pool deck. The atmosphere had a sense calm about it, even though there was music playing in the background, all my senses where engaged in the beauty of everything natural that was around us, nothing artificial or manmade contributed to the peace and serenity provide by the trees and wilderness that was surrounding us.
