OPG plans to build four SMRs
Dewa awards USD 3m contract in Hatta
Ontario Power Generation ’ s ( OPG ) plans to build four small modular reactors ( SMRs ) are part of an enhanced provincial focus on nuclear energy that has spurred a Burlington-based company to expand and create jobs . Celeros Flow Technology ( Celeros FT ) will expand its existing facility to become the first Ontariobased manufacturer of nuclearqualified pumps . This expansion
could also serve OPG ’ s operations and refurbishment needs at the existing Darlington and Pickering generating stations . As well as expanding its current operations in Burlington , Celeros FT has committed to finalizing a business case for a new nuclear valve production facility , within Ontario , as they look to play an enhanced role in nuclear growth in the province .
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has awarded a Dh 10.9M ( USD 2.96M ) contract to build a water pipeline in Hatta , as part of its hydroelectric power plant . The glass-reinforced epoxy pipeline is part of the pumpedstorage power plant that the utility is currently constructing , which is the first station of its kind in the GCC region , Dewa said recently . The project includes the construction of a jet valve chamber
to extend the lower outlet valve of Hatta Dam to the Wadi area , it said . The power station will have a production capacity of 250 megawatts , a storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt hours , and a lifespan of up to 80 years . “ Dewa is developing a worldclass infrastructure for electricity and water to keep pace with the growing demand in Dubai and provide its services according to the highest standards of availability , reliability , efficiency , and quality ,” he said .

Asahi Kasei , Gentari , and JGC signed MoU on FEED study
Asahi Kasei , Gentari Hydrogen Sdn Bhd , a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS clean energy arm Gentari Sdn Bhd ( Gentari ), and JGC Holdings Corporation ( JGC ) have announced the completion of a detailed feasibility study for production of up to 8,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen using a 60 megawatt ( MW ) class alkaline water electrolyser system . The parties also signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) for a front-end engineering design ( FEED ) study for the said project . This project is supported by the Green Innovation Fund for Large-scale Alkaline Water
Electrolysis System Development and Green Chemical Plant Project by Japan ’ s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization ( NEDO ). This commercial-scale project demonstrates the companies ’ commitment to fostering markets for green hydrogen and establishing a foundation for regional green hydrogen production , aligning with the broader mission of decarbonisation in Japan , Malaysia , and across Southeast Asia .
