industry update
Second Hibiscus / Ruche well production started
BW Energy has announced that production has safely started from a second well of the Hibiscus / Ruche Phase 1 development in the Dussafu licence offshore Gabon . Production performance from the well has been in line with expectations and is currently stabilised at approximately 6,000 barrels per day . The DHIBM-4H well was drilled as a horizontal well from the BW MaBoMo production facility to a total depth of 4,800 metres into Gamba sandstone reservoirs on the Hibiscus field .
Following completion , the Borr Norve jackup commenced drilling operations on the third production well ( DHIBM-5H ). The drilling campaign targets four Hibiscus Gamba and two Ruche Gamba wells which are expected to add approximately 30,000 barrels per day of total oil production when all wells are completed in early 2024 . The oil produced at Hibiscus / Ruche is transported by pipeline to the BW Adolo FPSO for processing and storage before offloading to export tankers .
SMAC ’ s new low-profile electric actuator
SMAC Moving Coil Actuators has announced that its LPL30 low-profile electric linear moving coil actuators are being used by major manufacturers of dosing and filling machines in Asia and Europe .
The LPL30 , introduced by SMAC earlier this year , is designed for speed , consistency , and repeatability , making it ideal for use in dosing and dispensing applications . Precision dosing of materials and fluids is traditionally done with diaphragm-operated valves operated by air valves and cylinders . The drawbacks with air-operated diaphragm valves include : a response variation of plus or minus 10-15 milliseconds , which can result in the dosing volume varying by 10 %; a cycle rate 50 % lower ; they ’ re limited to a fixed speed and two positions ; and a short lifecycle . SMAC LPL30 actuators use a DC linear servo motor and offer programmable speed , force up to 70 newton , micronlevel positioning , and a 30 mm pitch that is ideal for dosing and dispensing applications .
New ATI zero emissions actuator solution Petrofac signs EUR 1.37bn EPC contract
Automation Technology , Inc ., a provider of customised and comprehensive valve automation solutions , has launched its Zero Emission Electro-Hydraulic actuator solution to eliminate the carbon footprint of pipeline operations . The package provides a comprehensive solution to lower emissions without requiring pipeline gas as the actuator ’ s primary power supply . With ATI ’ s self-contained Zero Emission Electro-Hydraulic solution , the power source is attached to the actuator in a compact suite .
Available in spring-return or double-acting configurations , the Zero Emission Electro-Hydraulic package can be mounted directly to the valve via flange or custom adaption . The pump , motor , reservoir limit switches , solenoids , and positioners are mounted to the actuator . In remote locations where power is not available , ATI provides solar power systems to run the systems required by the customer . ATI also provides a skidmounted hydraulic power unit for larger operations , enabling power for multiple actuators simultaneously .
Petrofac has entered into a definitive agreement with STEP Polymers SPA ( a 100 % subsidiary of Sonatrach ) for the design and build of its petrochemical complex in the Arzew Industrial Zone in Algeria . As previously announced , Petrofac will deliver the EUR 1.37bn project with its joint venture partner China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation ( HQC ), with Petrofac ’ s share valued at over EUR 908M . The contract was signed at an
official ceremony in Algiers by representatives of Petrofac , HQC , and STEP . Tareq Kawash , Petrofac ’ s Group Chief Executive , said : ‘ I am delighted to be in Algiers alongside our partner and client to mark the official award of this pioneering project . Broadening Petrofac ’ s portfolio within the petrochemical sector , this contract builds on our 25-year track record of safely delivering strategically significant energy infrastructure in Algeria , while developing local workforces .
