NASA Awards Contract to MagDrive; Supports Innovative Tech
McDermott Secures Deepwater Subsea Contract by PTTEP in Malaysia
McDermott has been awarded a * large offshore subsea contract by PTTEP Sabah Oil Limited( PTTEP) for the Block H gas field expansion project, located offshore Sabah, in East Malaysia covering the Alum, Bemban and Permai deepwater fields.
Under the contract, McDermott will deliver EPCI services for a carbon steel pipeline, along with transportation and installation of key subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines( SURF) components. The infrastructure is part of a broader system designed to support the delivery of additional feed gas to the Petronas Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Dua facility, which has been producing from Block H ' s Rotan and Buluh fields since 2021.
Engineering and project management will be led from McDermott ' s Subsea and Floating Facilities team in Kuala Lumpur, while offshore installation will be executed by the company ' s versatile marine construction fleet.
Operated by PTTEP on behalf of partners Petronas Carigali and PT Pertamina Malaysia Exploration Production, the Block H development is a cornerstone of Malaysia ' s deepwater gas strategy, with expansion expected to increase domestic gas supply, supporting long-term energy security and economic growth. * McDermott defines a large contract as between USD $ 50 million and USD $ 250 million.

MagDrive Technologies, Inc. has announced its selection by NASA for a Small Business Innovation Research( SBIR) Phase II award. The contract supports the development of the company’ s E-Drive: Electromagnetic Zero-Emission Valve Drive, designed to eliminate valve leaks through a hermetically sealed, electromagnetically actuated design.
The award builds on the company’ s Phase I work and will fund the transition from digital models to fully functional prototypes. The E-Drive aims to deliver zero-emission cryogenic valve operation, enabling precise flow control, miniaturisation, and enhanced reliability in extreme aerospace environments.
By eliminating external dynamic seals, the technology addresses fugitive emissions from industrial valves, which is considered to be one of the most persistent challenges in spaceflight and terrestrial applications.
During Phase II, MagDrive Technologies will fabricate and test E-Drive motor components, integrate them into a cryogenic valve system, and validate performance under space-relevant conditions.
