Devon Energy and Coterra Complete Merger
Devon Energy Corporation and Coterra Energy Inc. have completed an all-stock merger, creating a premier largecap shale operator in the economic core in the Delaware Basin.
The merger was initially announced in February 2026 and was approved by the stockholders of both companies in early May 2026. The combined company will operate under Devon Energy and be headquartered in Houston, Texas, while maintaining a significant presence in Oklahoma City.
Devon Energy is one of the leading oil and gas producers in the U. S. with a premier multi-basin portfolio touching the Anadarko Basin, Eagle Ford, Marcellus Shale, Powder River Basin, and Williston Basin.
Shell Announces Agreement to Acquire Canadian ARC Resources Ltd.
Shell plc has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ARC Resources Ltd., an energy company focused on the Montney shale basin in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
According to a recent release, the acquisition will accelerate Shell’ s strategy by adding 370 kboe / d immediately across liquids and gas, leading to a 4 % production Compound Annual Growth Rate( CAGR) through to 2030. It will also increase Shell’ s exposure to long-duration, low-cost, and top-quartile low-carbon-intensity shale gas and liquids production in Canada’ s Montney basin.
In 2025, ARC reported a production of 374,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Its operations are situated in the same region as Shell’ s Groundbirch asset in British Columbia and the Gold Creek project in neighboring Alberta.

Austin Water Breaks Ground on Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
To initiate key upgrades for improving the treatment processes and protecting the health of the Colorado River downstream of Austin, city leaders and Austin Water broke ground on a $ 1.5 billion expansion of the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant( WWTP). All improvements will be made while the plant remains fully operational.
Through this expansion, that capacity will increase to 100 million gallons a day( MGD), which will help meet future demand and state-mandated requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality( TCEQ) for Austin’ s projected growth of 1.5 million by 2040.
The WWTP is one of the nation’ s top-performing plants. Built in 1977, when Austin’ s population was just over 320,000, the plant expanded to meet the requirements of more than one million people. Today, it serves more than 50 % of Austin and operates at a treatment capacity of 75 MGD.
