Wrestling

Over the past several years, the Valley View Wrestling Team has gained a lot of popularity within the student body. Despite being so young, our team is full of talent, dedication, and discipline. Alongside new, sophomore wrestlers, we also have a new coach--Coach Holt. We interviewed Zach Lutz, Kaleb Bearce, and Coach Holt, asking a variety of questions about

wrestling as a whole before they went to their

state competition. They all had positive

mindsets when time was ticking closer to

February 17th. Coach Holt talked about how the

season has been going so far, who was the most

improved wrestler, and how he thought they

would perform at the state competition. Coach

Holt talked highly of all of his wrestlers, proud

of all they have accomplished as a new and

upcoming team. The season has been amazing,

and Coach Holt has seen improvement from all of his wrestlers. We have had a couple injuries, but the team has picked each other up and kept pushing. Coach Holt talked to us about Zach Lutz, a sophomore who is a very good wrestler, as well as Blake Arnoult, a junior, and his strides despite this year being his first year as a wrestler. Kaleb Bearce, another junior, is a good wrestler, but has sadly been out all season due to a shoulder injury. Overall, we are very proud as a school of the growth that our wrestling team has seen this year. Our team performed very well at state, and have made a great name for our school.

Blazer Track

Our Beacon Article is to promote the Valley View 2018 track team. According to the runners on the team, this year they will be very successful. The boys and the girls team have very good athletes. There is a good team playing for the relay races and good individual ethic for the

other races. The short and long distance runner

have different strengths that are necessary for

each of them. The short distance runners need

qualities such as speed and technique. The long

distance runners need qualities such has mental

strength and agility. Many Coaches believe that

track not only makes you faster but it makes you

a better athlete in general. Track builds character

and teaches you that whoever works the hardest and trains the most will always come out on top. Steve faber said “The simple answer to why your football coach wants you to run track is because it makes you a better athlete, but it goes deeper than that. Running has been a mainstay of football conditioning since the beginning. What better way to improve complex running skills than being on the track team? The timing is perfect with track being the fourth sports season in most high schools and middle schools. That makes it a natural lead-in to spring football or summer camp. Here are seven reasons why your high school football coach wants you to run track this spring and be better prepared for what’s ahead.” Track is the best way to stay in shape during the off season and make you a better competitor.
