The damage snow geese cause to wheat fields is tragic in our local area, and throughout the whole country. These geese cause high yield losses in many farmers wheat all over the country. A local farmer in our area, Adam Partee was able to give us some valuable information on what exactly the geese do to the wheat. “Throughout the years I have been farming, I have witnessed many cases of wheat being destroyed by snow geese. They can feed off of a perfectly healthy field, and have it wiped out in a matter of
three days.” stated Adam Partee. Snow
geese are rapidly becoming more and more
overpopulated and need to be managed
properly. We spoke with Craig Allen, the
Poinsett County Extension Agent, about the
best ways to keep these geese off wheat
fields. “The best way our local farmers have
found to keep these geese off their wheats
fields, is to simply hunt them. Many farmers
in the area will hire young boys to drive
around and shoot the geese off their
fields.” This information from Mr. Allen
could possibly contribute to the successful
managing of the snow goose population. Since the best way to get rid of these
geese is to shoot them, we will now provide conservation rules and regulations
for these birds. During the duck season here in Arkansas, the limit for Snow, Blue,
and Ross geese is currently at 20 birds per man. However, when duck season is over a conservation hunt for these geese comes in, where there are no limits on the snow goose group. During the regular duck season, the hunter must only be able to hunt these birds with a shotgun capacity of three rounds. But, in the conservation season the hunter is able to have an unlimited capacity of rounds in his gun.

College Signings
Valley View has had an exceptional year with Athletics. It is an honor for Valley View schools to have so many sign to play at the next level. We have had quite a few people sign to go on to play at the next level in college. The first person we interviewed was Tyler Walls he signed to play baseball at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge,Arkansas. Then we went on to interview Rechase’a Watson he is going to play basketball at Lamar Community College in Colorado. We also interviewed Abbi McGee who is only in eleventh grade but has already committed to play volleyball at the University of Arkansas in fayetteville,Arkansas. These are just a couple of the athletes that have signed and committed to play at the next level out of several that signed at Valley View. We had a total of seven people sign this year to go on and play at the next level in college. It is a great accomplishment to every one of these athletes for signing and getting a great chance to keep on playing their favorite sport and getting to continuing their education. Having all the signings emprove and show what a great athletic department the school has and that more and more colleges will now Valley View. It also looks good on the community and showing Jonesboro has some great athletes. It is an honor for all of the athletes.
