After over a year of work and after years in the making, South Georgia Medical Center hosted a topping out ceremony July 29 for the latest and largest project in its history, marking the end of the structural builds for the project and entering its last phase of work.
The building project is a new section of the hospital, with new facilities for emergency care and a state-of-the-art women’ s and infant care facility. The facility will add 145,000 square feet of new space to the hospital, including a brand new maternity ward, a new emergency and trauma center and a green space for the community.
“ Today we celebrate a major milestone in what is the largest and most ambitious project in SGMC Health’ s history,” Hilary Gibbs, SGMC Vice President of Support Services and Chief Development Officer, said.“ This $ 150 million investment represents our shared commitment to advancing healthcare across South Georgia.”
