3My third favorite Christmas movie is one that not a lot of people may have seen , but they should . “ Arthur Christmas ” is about the son of Santa Claus , who wants nothing more than for every kid to be happy on Christmas . When one kid is missed , Arthur goes on an ill-advised adventure to get a little girl her bike before Christmas morning . It ’ s a beautiful story about the family dynamic and the importance of hope and belief . It is one of my and my wife ’ s favorite Christmas films .
2My runner-up is the most recent iteration of “ The Grinch ” starring Benedict Cumberbatch . The story isn ’ t really different . It ’ s your classic Grinch tale as he steals Christmas away from those pesky Whos . But , this animated film really shines in two ways . Its hilarious physical comedy , which often ends with someone flat on their face , and the way it dives into the Grinch as a person . We get to know who the Grinch is , exploring his childhood , why he hates Christmas , and it dives deeper into his relationship with Max . All of this makes his chance Christmas night meeting with Cindy Lou Who , who we also get to know better , much more heartfelt and meaningful . It ’ s a belly-laughing good time capped off with some genuine heart .
1Taking the number one spot , of course , is “ Elf ”. If you can watch a Christmas movie in July and still have a good time , then it deserves the number one spot . Will Ferrell ’ s classic New York adventure as a human raised by elves , searching for his father , and the love he hopes to have is just a joy . The comedy is classic Will Ferrell , but is also clean for the whole family to enjoy . Forget classic moments , the whole film is a classic moment . From eating cotton balls at the doctor , to singing in the bathroom , to defeating bullies in a snowball fight , this movie has every laugh you could ever have . And I still get chills when he makes the sleigh fly .
Merry Christmas everyone , and happy watching !
