More than just a ballet ,
The Nutcracker has become a cherished Valdosta tradition , bringing families together .
Most roles are double cast to accommodate the high demand , giving more dancers the chance to perform and gain valuable stage experience . This approach also lets them take on different roles within the same season .
Unlike many productions that bring in professional dancers for leading roles , Dance Arts Valdosta relies on its own students , allowing them to shine .
“ The young people that do these huge roles are so talented , and they work so hard ,” said Shenton . “ I think it is really special that we do not have to hire professional dancers , that we really give these kids an opportunity to do these big roles on stage , and they do a fabulous job .”
As the holiday season nears , Dance Arts Valdosta invites the community to enjoy this timeless tradition . With a dedicated cast , refreshed costumes , and the magic of The Nutcracker , this year ’ s performance promises to be as enchanting as ever .
