Summer Highlights
We kicked off SummerFest in style with Star-Spangled 250! featuring Music Director Jonathon Heyward’ s debut on the Oregon Ridge podium, joined by our“ O, Say Can You Sing?” competition winner, Aleisha Murdock for a riveting performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. The return of Music For Maryland brought the BSO to Harford, Talbot, Queen Anne’ s and Worcester Counties for pay-what-you-wish concerts, helping the BSO reach the broader Maryland community. Audiences enjoyed two nights of classical and operatic favorites at Boordy Vineyards, with support from presenting sponsor PNC Bank. Back at our Meyerhoff and Strathmore homes, the Orchestra offered a wide array of programs, from Looney Tunes classics, to the first symphonies of Beethoven and Mozart.

A New Steinway for the Meyerhoff
As featured in the May-June issue of Overture, the BSO is acquiring a new Steinway Model D for the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Members of the BSO family traveled to the Steinway factory in New York this past June for a tour of the factory, and got an inside look at how a Steinway is crafted. We are grateful to acclaimed pianist Garrick Ohlsson, our artistic partner to aid in our upcoming instrument selection. Ohlsson is renowned for his mastery of Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, and will be performing Brahms’ monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BSO and Jonathon Heyward this upcoming November 14 & 15.
