V-Day Annual Report 2024 | Seite 63

* All OBR coordinators signed our global OBR solidarity statements, but these countries did additional solidarity actions as part of their risings:
AFGHANISTAN:“ No one understands the plight of the people of Gaza better than us, as we have endured decades of war and violence. Our hearts ache, especially for the innocent children caught in the midst of this turmoil. Sadly, we are unable to openly express our sorrow and demand global compassion due to our lack of freedom. However, within our small community platforms, everyone passionately discussed and lamented the situation, shedding many tears for those affected. Many families refused to celebrate Nawroz, the Afghan New Year, which is typically a time of joy and festivity. Instead, they expressed solidarity with the suffering children, recognizing that if they lack food and basic necessities, there is no reason to celebrate. This small act of solidarity was a heartfelt way to demonstrate empathy and support for those in need.” – Zoya( OBR Afghanistan coordinator)
BANGLADESH:“ As part of the planning of OBR 2024, there was a collective decision to stand against Israel’ s audacity. During the OBR launch, a clear and strong stance against the genocide was articulated. Throughout the risings, from leaflets to speeches and human chains, solidarity with Palestine was emphasized. In programs, notable figures( women activists) from Bangladesh and India highlighted the situation in Palestine and expressed solidarity. Also, OBR artists( singers, a progressive popular band and an indigenous women’ s band) all showed solidarity for Palestine through their performances. Sangat Performing Space Bangladesh portrayed the current situation in Gaza through a powerful drama against patriarchy, leaving a significant impact on the audience and highlighting the gravity of the situation. Human chains formed across 37 districts and villages raising massive awareness among grassroots communities, evoking empathy for the suffering of the Palestinian people and demanding an urgent end to the atrocities.” – Khushi Kabir( OBR Bangladesh coordinator)
