This year, more than
community members were reached with anti-FGM messages from Tasaru.
In Narok County, the prevalence of FGM has decreased from 78 % to 51 % over the past decade, a direct result of the tireless efforts by the government of Kenya and grassroots organizations such as Tasaru to intensify community awareness of the existence of the laws that prohibit FGM, and to champion the rights of girls to education.

This year, more than

community members were reached with anti-FGM messages from Tasaru.

An Alternative Rite of Passage( ARP) training for seventy girls was held in August 2023. A six-day in-house training attracted young girls drawn from the entire Narok County who had not gone through the cut. The ARP was an intense training on life skills, sexual reproductive health, communication, the importance of education, and understanding positive and negative cultures among other topics. TNI engaged community facilitators, godmothers, medics, and role models to teach during the session.
The renovation of the Tasaru Safe House was a key priority this year so that rescued girls could enjoy a clean and safe environment where they can heal from the trauma caused by their family / community. V-Day funded the renovation of the following areas: the replacement of the cubicle doors, the repair of the bathroom showers, and sealing of the previously leaking septic tanks. The staff also had their office tiled.
186 girls in both primary and secondary school were supported through payment of school fees and 7 girls were funded to continue with their education in university and college. This is a program that started in September 2021 after we realized that students who finish form four and do not proceed to university / college end up getting married without any professional course to help them earn a living. This is the 2nd cohort of university students supported by V-Day.
