Since February 2024, 10 graduates of City of Joy are perfecting their training in batik and are being introduced to screen printing at the V-World Farm as part of our“ Fashion School” program. During the past two months, these learners and producers prepared fabrics on which they applied the dye using needle and sprinkling techniques. Students are also learning stenciling techniques in screen printing, where they are also familiarizing themselves with computers, starting with Microsft Word and Photoshop and Corel Draw, a printing program for large-scale projects.

Early Stages

In screen printing, the graduates of City of Joy have received training in screen printing and IT, learning the stencil technique in screen printing and the beginning of computer initiation, starting with Word and Photoshop. In stencil technique, the learners acquired the use of a silk screen for printing made up of a cellulose film and a piece of silk canvas.
Learning how to cut cellulose film, before attaching it to silk fabric using a nail polish remover. Below is the result of the cutting, of the various patterns chosen by each learner. After cutting, the cut film is stuck on the silk screen using a cellulose solvent.
The aim of IT was to introduce the group to image processing in CorelDraw and Photoshop. CorelDraw for large prints and Photoshop for image processing. Learners use certain Photoshop tools to select an image, and detach it to put it in another environment. Add text to it, give shapes, create backgrounds, gradients, etc.
