Life at the Farm follows a pattern: preparatory work, sowing, planting,
fertilization, phytosanitary treatment, guarding and maintenance of season, harvesting. The area sown for crops is 28.64 hectares, with the number of seedlings amounting to 1403 seedlings.
THE TOTAL ANNUAL CROP PRODUCTION IS 34,310.6 KILOS. THIS INCLUDES: |
5165.8 kilos of beans |
645.5 kilos of peanuts |
4311.9 kilos of corn; 4802 kilos of corn flour |
834.1 kilos of soya |
34.5 kilos of sunflower |
1383.9 kilos of taro |
624.7 kilos of sweet potato |
1074.7 kilos of sorghum |
1139.7 kilos of Sorghum flour |
126088 kilos of rice, of which merchant rice amounts to 89246.1 kilos |
4924 kilos fruits |
822.6 kg of guavas |
A great deal of emphasis is put on reforestation at the farm. The work of staking, drilling, improving planting, weeding, mowing, fertilization, harvesting and phytosanitary treatment are carried out throughout the year.
The average annual production of planks for the various construction projects is 369.5 and that of firewood is 198.3 cubic meters( which are used to cook food for pigs, thus destroying parasites). Operating in a system where nothing is lost but everything is transformed, the waste from felling and sawing work produced 131 bags of charcoal. The compost pits organized at this production unit make it possible to amend market gardening with organic fertilizer to improve productivity.
Our livestock projects are abundant with pigs, though the epidemic of African swine fever raged this year, causing the death of 15 pigs. The total number of the herd is 77 pigs at present. We also have 243 goats, 110 sheep, x rams, x lambs, 7 cattle, and chickens( the laying hens laid 7228 eggs and the broilers produced 1669.7 kilos of meat from the slaughter of 704 chickens), tilapia( the annual productivity on an area of 150 areas was 3318.2 kilos) and bees, which yields honey. We had 62 hives, including 45 colonized hives divided into 29 local hives and 16 modern hives. Annual production of honey harvested is 108 kilos.
Maggot farming, a sub-branch of breeding, is one of the new activities implemented on the farm this year as maggots are a good source of proteins for our livestock. In addition to the production of protein, the process of breeding maggots allows us to recycle organic waste, transforming it into minerals, vitamins and other nutrients that plants can easily digest. Additionally, a small laboratory is used at the farm for various unique mixtures composed of active bacteria, fungi, and yeasts. This is also the first year we have tried Azolla cultivation – this process involves fixing atmospheric nitrogen through a fern grown at the V-world Farm as an additional source of nitrogen for fish and poultry feed. We also introduced an exotic plant called“ safoutier”, whose nutrient-rich pulp contains nutritionally interesting substances, essential fatty acids that play a role in lowering cholesterol levels.
This year, the drainage work that was carried out covered 26,045 cubic meters, and the road was maintained over an area of 8,340 m ².
54 women are paid monthly by the project and 205 have plots of land in which they grow cassava, vegetables, etc. to feed their children and pay their school fees when they harvest.
