RISING FUND GRANTEES
A LITTLE PIECE OF LIGHT is a women-led organization founded by Donna Hylton . It is a comprehensive support center for women , girls , and gender-fluid individuals who are directly impacted by trauma and involvement in the criminal justice system and have experienced the intersectionality of sexism , racism , violence , sexual abuse , incarceration , historical oppression , and persistent poverty .
ALIANZA NACIONAL DE CAMPESINAS unifies the struggle to promote farmworker women ’ s leadership in a national movement to create broader visibility and advocate for changes that ensure their human rights . Alianza organized One Billion Rising : Rising Gardens events , Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness month activities in April ; Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities in October ; and International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 . Alianza created small family or community groves / huertos familiares o comunitarios , where members learned how to make home remedies / remedios caseros , and create healing spaces / healing circles to help campesinas handle Covid-related grief , stress , and anxiety . Funds also helped support their virtual Convivencia / Gathering of 75 + campesinas , Alianza and member organization board / staff , where they listened to and gathered testimonies and recommendations from campesinas on gender-based violence and child sexual abuse occurrence and prevention .
ASHÉ CULTURAL ARTS CENTER uses art and culture to support human , community , and economic development . Ashé ’ s innovative programming is designed to utilize culture in fostering human development and civic engagement . They maintain 5,000 square feet of gallery space , creating and preserving opportunities for the curation , exhibition , and commission of fine , folk , and fine-folk art of the African Diaspora . Producing over 350 music , theater , dance , spoken word , drum circles , and multi-disciplinary events a year , Ashé believes in art as a paradigm shifting call to action . Funds were used to support their Community Spread collaborative , whose members work together in cross-sector , grassroots partnerships including art and culture , health and wellness , economic & community development .
