What is it like being a working Mother (police officer)?
Most times being a working mom can be awesome at times i feel like super woman being able
to work and still do what needs to be done at home. Also still spend time with my daughter. But
then therefore those times when I just feel like i need a break, like my plate maybe a little too full
I just need to slow down wish i could get back some of the hours i spent at work.
Growing up, what did you think you wanted do for a living?
When I was growing up I wanted to be an architect, design strange looking buildings and design
house plans for people make them feel happy after they’ve seen my work.
How have your notion of what it means to be a Mother changed?
They actually have changed somewhat. I recognize that being a mom is a lot more work than I
imagined. Being physically and mentally on pare isn’t always easy. I love my daughter so much
that it scares me; my life isn’t mines anymore either. So many images of motherhood i saw
around me growing up told me i was to love every second of it. But after becoming a mother it
made me feel guilty at the thought of fantasizing to run away to a hotel to get a good night
sleep. Being a mom is far most one of the biggest jobs i have ever taken on but by far it’s the
most rewarding.
When did you know you were ready to have children?
I was unsure of my readiness for there was uncertainty and unpredictability, i kept hoping for a clear answer. How could i be ready for lessons i hadn’t learnt, physical exhaustion i hadn’t yet experience and such a responsibility i hadn’t carried. I know much more now than i knew then. Looking back i was probably more ready than i realized. For i was willing to make sacrifices for someone more than myself, i had the capacity to love.
How is you relationship with your child or children?
My relationship with my daughter is great. She feels safe and secure knowing that I’m there for
her and support her regardless of the outcome. As a parent I motivate and encourage, I have
respect for her and she has the same for me. We hug daily to maintain that physical connection
and regularly express verbally how much we love each other. We are like sisters, we talk about most things, play games together and tell each other funny stories.
