Even though Nate Gray graduated six years ago, he still hasn’t forgotten his roots and the influence PRSSA had on him at Utah Valley University.
Nate currently works in the marketing department reporting to the Vice President of PR and several other Vice Presidents for the Venetian. Although he may not be working directly in PR, he says, “No matter what project I may be working on, I can always tie things back to a PR perspective.”
One project that Nate worked on over the summer was building brand awareness to the convention attendees. Nate focused on those that would be attending many of the conferences in Las Vegas to stay at The Venetian. One of his strategies was using Chris Paul of the L.A. Clippers and holding a charity ping pong event. They work closely with the hotel to give loyalty members access to meet Chris Paul and several other celebrities that attend these events.
Speaking of his time back in school, he
said he wished he would have taken
more business classes. “Ultimately, if
you want to move up in a giant
corporation,” he said, “you want to be
well rounded and understand different
areas of business.” He went on to say
that if someone was to come in with
business understanding and training,
they were going to be successful.
As with most who are a member of PRSSA, many get endless opportunities to network with professionals and work with other students in projects; Nate would add one more big reason to be a part of PRSSA. “Being in PRSSA was practice. You get to practice all of these areas and elements of PR in the real world without it being in the real world.” As with sports, if you mess up in practice, it’s much safer to mess up then than when it’s crucial not to make a mistake during a game.
